Entry 7: Pointed Toes
With taken dance classes this semester I was told multiple times to learn how to pointe my toes. I never understood why even though I have been dancing since I was little. However, I did more of a hip hop type of choreography so pointing my toes was never an issue.
In contemporary dance when we were doing bar stretches I noticed that Professor always have her toes pointed. It made all of her dance movements seem long and perfect. So I just eventually started to point my toes justfor the fun of it. Until one day I went into my dance practice at my church and I was dancing and I noticed that I was pointing my toes as I danced. my dance instructor was so proud of me. And if I must say it too, I was proud of myself. I even video camera myself dancing just to see the difference between pointing my toes and not pointing my toes.
Wanting to know more about the pointing of the toes, I learned that ballet dancers point their feet to make, long, graceful lines with their legs. This statement I found to be true after watching myself on camera.

Entry 5: FNAR 267 Contemporary Dance
With the variety of different phrases and styles put together, I had no idea how Professor was going to be able to find the music to go with these different combinations. As we repeatedly went over the dance phrases I noticed that mostly everyone's phrases had something in common.
For this reason our class choregraphy was dedicated to Women Against Violence Awareness.

Entry 4:Sacred Blessings Liturgical Dance Ministry at Michigan Park Christian Church

The movements done by the dancers consist of plies, jetes and arabesques. There are also moments within the dance when the movements of the dancers resemble a combination of various African dances. The repetition throughout the different dance phrases are used to put emphasizes on usually the chorus to allow the church to point out the purpose of not only the song but the things that the LORD has the ability to do. The church responses are usually a mixture of "hallelujahs" and "thank you Jesus".

Entry 3: As I Let The Movements Take Me There
It's sometimes hard for me to look in the mirror and see only a girl who wants to be someone other than just me.
My reflection is distorted from all the ones who see nothing but wrong in the way that i talk or the way that i move to the beats of drums.
I unintentionally let people judge me cause its all I ever hear.
So I Let The Movements Take Me There....💃
All the tormenting memories before allowed my first intention to flee
Because I have reach that boiling point where the voices of myself can no longer save me.
So I Let The Movements Take Me There...💃
As the movements took me there I realized that people tend to become afraid of things they don't know.
So I whipped my hips, leaped across the floor, stretched my arms and legs
&& Let The Movements Take Me There...💃
The movements took me to a place full of my own insecurities, so I turned the music louder 🔊
It was clear as I moved from one end of this place to the other end I was a GIRL COPING WITH HER OWN INSECURITIES.
As I tried to let the movements take me there
I realized those same movements are the reasons I'm stuck with these insecurities...

Entry 2: Pelvic Thrust
the pelvic thrust is the act of hip-thrusting. The body is positioned in such a manner in which the movement of the pelvic muscles is maximized whereas the movement of the rest of the body is minimized. The hips are then thrusted back and forth in rapid succession.
The pelvic thrust is done by:
(1) bending your knees
(2) slightly stick your butt out ( sometimes hands are positioned in front of body in a fist)
(3) move the pelvic area forwards &. backwards
(4) repeat these steps as needed

Entry 1: Correlation Of My Major &&. Dance

To be even more specific, my major is developmental psychology which mainly deals with children. So in my opinion I feel as though many children use the sense of movements to communicate howthey are feeling. Dance is a type of nonvebal communication so wy not take advantage of it. So much emotions and understnading can come from the movements of a dance phrase.
These are just a few ways that my major and dance correlate!
